Assembly asked to intervene over Leighton Farm
Thursday 24th November 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
Campaigners against a super dairy which has been given planning permission to be built near Welshpool are calling on the Welsh Assembly to intervene.
The Campaign Against Leighton Farm expansion is hoping the Assembly will help out after Powys County Council’s planning committee gave the controversial development the green light at a meeting next month – a decision opponents of the scheme have described as ‘incomprehensible’.
The plans were given the go-ahead despite claims it conflicts the Powys Unitary Development Plan and causes environmental problems.
Now CALFe is lobbying the Assembly by demanding that they ‘call in’ the planning decision which allows the development for 1,000 cows to be built next to a primary school.
Council planning officers recommended to the planning committee that the proposal be refused, but councillors went against the recommendation and allowed it.
