Jonathan Edwards named new Wenlock Olympian Society president
Wednesday 23rd November 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards has been named as the new president of the Wenlock Olympian Society.
The triple jump world record holder was the society’s vice president for the last two years.
He said today he was aware he had big boots to fill. He succeeds the late Roy Rogers, an Olympic and Commonwealth official and president of Midlands Counties Athletics, who died in April.
Other former presidents include Norman Wood, who led the revival of Wenlock Games in 1977 and was the driving force of the society for more than 25 years, and William Penny Brookes, the society founder.
The announcement was made at the society’s annual meeting.
