Girl, 14, in sex assault ordeal near Shrewsbury school site
Wednesday 23rd November 2011, 12:30PM GMT.
A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Shrewsbury, it emerged this afternoon. The girl was attacked by a male youth close to Oxon School.
Police said the incident took place in Racecourse Lane, between 5pm and 8pm on Saturday.
They are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and said the male youth may have followed the girl both before and after the incident and possibly walked with her for a short time.
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and given police bail while inquiries continue.
Detective Sergeant John Weaver, of Shrewsbury police, said that officers were keen to establish the precise movements of both parties.
“The exact location is not clear but the actual assault appears to have taken place at the back of Oxon School at some point between 5pm and 8pm on Saturday,” he said.
“However, it seems the youth may either have followed the girl or at some stage been in her company.
“Although she was not hurt this was a serious incident and we are appealing for witnesses.
“We want to hear from anyone who might have seen the girl and youth in the vicinity of Oxon School. It is important we establish their exact movements.
“I urge anyone who thinks they may have seen these people in the area of the school early on Saturday evening to contact Shrewsbury CID by dialling 101.”
