Boycott petrol station cashpoint says MP Daniel Kawczynski

Shrewsbury’s MP Daniel Kawczynski is urging people to boycott a petrol station cashpoint in the town after claiming he was short changed on two occasions.

Mr Kawczynski warned people to be on their guard when using the cashpoint by the Esso garage at Dobbies roundabout in Shrewsbury.

He said on two occasions he withdrew £100 at the cash machine only to be given £80 in cash.

But his bank statements showed that £100 had been taken from the account.

He said: “I am very angry and very cross about this and would urge my constituents to stay away from the cash machine until the situation is sorted out.

“The staff at the Esso garage said it had happened on a number of occasions but there was nothing they could do about it.

“I will be boycotting the petrol station from now on and will be writing to Esso to complain about the situation.” He added that he was still in the process of reclaiming the money through his bank and he warned people to be on their guard and check the amount of cash they received when using the cashpoint.

A spokesperson from Esso today confirmed a complaint had been received about the cashpoint. Emma Heywood said:

“We can confirm that we have received a complaint about the ATM at the Shrewsbury Service Station on the Hereford Road and have alerted its supplier to investigate the machine for any fault. The ATM is currently out of service as a precaution while that investigation takes place.

“We hope that it can be returned to working order as quickly as possible so that Esso customers can continue to benefit from this additional service at our forecourt.

“We are grateful to Mr Kawczynski for bringing this matter to our attention.”
