Police name pedestrian killed in car crash tragedy
Tuesday 22nd November 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
A pedestrian who died after being hit by a car on the north Shropshire border was from Whitchurch, police said today. Philip Ledward was struck by a Citroen Saxo.
Michael McGivern, North Wales Police spokesman, today said Mr Ledward, 62, died at the scene of the collision on the A495in Bronington just before 5.30pm last Thursday.
It is understood he had been working in the village when the accident happened.
Mr Ledward’s family were too upset to speak today.
Councillors today said they would review the accident to see if the state of the road played any part in the collision.
Councillor Rodney Skelland, Wrexham County Borough Council member for Bronington, said: “My sympathies go to the man’s family.
“Whenever there is an accident we have to review the roads to see that it has not played any part in connection with the accident.
“If the number of accidents has been increasing then we can take some action. I will be pursuing it to ensure the state of the road has had nothing to do with this crash.”
A spokeswoman for Mr John Gittins, acting coroner for North East Wales, said the death had been reported and that a post-mortem was due to be held early this week.
But she said no inquest had yet been opened.
Police have appealed for information and any witnesses should call 0845 6071002 quoting reference M192510.
