People living close to Shrewsbury's historic Flaxmill Maltings will get the chance to have their say on the multi-million plans for the site. A new funding bid to help redevelop it is to be submitted this month.

It comes after a £12.7 million bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund was turned down this year.

Now partners Shropshire Council, English Heritage and the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings are in the final stages of putting in a revised bid.

It would help to transform the Grade I-listed site in Ditherington into a mixed-use development, which would include homes, shops and offices.

The bid will be among the issues discussed at the Castlefields and Ditherington Community Partnership meeting that is taking place next Tuesday.

Councillor Alan Mosley said the meeting, which is open to residents living in the two areas of Shrewsbury, will give people the chance to hear about where the bid is heading, as well as allowing them to put their own views across.

"We are looking at the latest situation at the meeting as far as things are developing," he said.

"We are reaching a situation where the partners will be submitting a bid at the end of the month.

"It is a chance for the public to come along and hear about some of the proposals."

Councillor Mosley said the community partnership provided a good forum for people to get their voices heard.

"The partnership has been going for about five years in various guises," he said. Meetings have usually been very successful in attracting local residents."

The meeting will be held at the Martin Wilson School in New Park Road from 7pm.
