Shrewsbury Toy Run motorbike procession axed
Monday 21st November 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
An organised procession of motorbikes will not be a feature of the Shrewsbury Toy Run this year, organisers confirmed today.
MCC Rainbringers said it was ‘very disappointed’ and blamed a lack of time to get things organised after the event was initially cancelled. They pledged it would be back next year.
The annual event, which sees Christmas presents delivered to children at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Severndale School and Bradbury House, was reinstated in October after originally being cancelled over concerns about whether police would be needed to marshal the event.
Following talks, it was agreed the event could be staged. But it will not include a marshalled ride of the bikers to drop off the presents.
Instead, participants will make their own way to the Square in Shrewsbury on December 11, where presents and donations will be collected from the public.

Not being able to hold the rideout part ia shame i agree.
However the delivery of presents to the children is still going ahead despite reports to the contrary. So the children are still at the heart of the event and it is they who the event is organised for.

When and where can we give presents?

Somewhere at the heart of this is a miserable anonymous lick-spittle bean-counter ….whoever you are I hope you burn your turkey to a frizzle. I bet your kids will get all the latest toys and gadgets..eh?

what a shame, and shame on the red tape makers. its not just about bikers, its about a town coming together for one day to brighten up the little ones. i still dont understand whats happening, can we still park our bikes in the squire like the begining of a toy run?? well i will miss the good people of our great town lining the streets. :o(

TOTALY AGREE WITH YOU MATE.
Answer to your question re parking.
YES….From 10am-2:30pm bikes are welcome to park on the square as in previous years.
Riders/pillions can watch the band (Stiff Witness)and if they still wish to,ride the ‘Toy Run’ route,but,un-marshalled adhering to the traffic/highway regulations.(Some clubs have already indicated that they will be riding in small groups along the route, returning to the square via Market St/Princess St),followed by raffle/auction and refreshments at The RedBarn,Longdon Rd from 2:30am onwards.
The hospital has requested NO large presence of motorcycles,so during the ‘Xmas Meet’ the presents will be delivered by truck/trike to the childrens ward from the square, escorted by 2-3 bikes.
