Oswestry man admits to killing partner

A man who brutally killed his partner at their home in Shropshire admitted manslaughter at court today.

Brian Woodmass was warned this afternoon that he should expect a ‘custodial term of some considerable length’ when he is sentenced on December 22.

The 59-year-old, of Orchard Street, Oswestry, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Jillian Louise Nevitt, but guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Ms Nevitt, a 45-year-old mother and grandmother, was killed by Woodmass on December 14 last year.

At Stafford Crown Court today no details of how she died were revealed.

But Judge Simon Tonking was told that psychiatrists said Woodmass had been suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
