Andy Sinton set to secure AFC Telford signings

Boss Andy Sinton is set to secure two of AFC Telford United’s three new signings on deals to the end of the season – and could bring in two more this week.
Loanees Jay Smith and Ashley Cain, both from Tamworth, made their debuts in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Mansfield, while Steve Jones came off the bench for his Telford bow.
Smith is believed to be surplus to requirements at Tamworth and is expected to extend his stay at the New Bucks Head, while veteran Jones, who joined as a free agent on non-contract terms, is eager to put pen to paper on a more permanent deal.
“I have almost got two of them tied down for the rest of the season, albeit that a little bit of paperwork still needs to be done,” said Sinton.
“One of them is not there yet, but two of them – as long as they prove their fitness – you will be seeing for the rest of the season.
“Hopefully, it will be all three – along with another two, three, four or five. There could be a couple more this week.
“We’ve got until Thursday and I’ve got one more injury with Adam (Proudlock), which I’m led to believe we can use to bring in an emergency loan.”
Sinton also issued a personal thank-you message to the Telford fans after seeing his side go some way to eradicating the painful memory of the 4-0 FA Cup defeat at Chelmsford with a much-improved display against Mansfield.
“I want to pay tribute to the crowd because they really got behind the players,” said Sinton.
“Maybe reality is setting in with them that we are going to be in a battle, but they were excellent so I say thanks for that.
“They turned the New Bucks Head into a hostile place for Mansfield to come, and that is what we need.”
