Retired school teacher Jo Carson loses cancer fight

A retired school teacher and charity worker from Shrewsbury has died after a battle with lung cancer.

Tributes today poured in for Jo Carson, who passed away peacefully at Severn Hospice in Shrewsbury on November 12, aged 67.

She had been battling cancer for three years. The mother-of-one, originally from Rafoe in County Donegal, moved to Shrewsbury with her husband Alec in 1977. She taught at Sundorne Infant School for more than 12 years and returned to the school to work as a supply teacher for a further five years.

A requiem mass and celebration of Jo’s life will take place at St Winefride’s Roman Catholic Church, Shrewsbury, on Monday at 10am. Mourners have been asked not to wear black.
