Enthusiasts swarm to beekeeping club

There is a real buzz around beekeeping in Shropshire. Around 2,000 people are involved in the hobby, and around 50 more are joining them each year.

“We’re inundated,” said Brian Goodwin, president of the Shropshire Beekeepers’ Association.

“There are many, many people taking up beekeeping. There’s tremendous interest. The bee scene locally is thriving.”

He said 200 people had taken up beekeeping over the past three years, using practical courses the association runs at Radbrook College in Shrewsbury.

It has three, five-week courses due to begin in January, one of which already has 25 people on its books.
