Bishop’s Castle house roof replaced after height lowered
Friday 18th November 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
Workmen have lowered the roof at an eco-friendly house in Bishop’s Castle after residents demanded action over its height.
It took workers more than an hour to re-attach the roof of Tower House at the Wintles yesterday afternoon.
Developers had originally hoped to have the roof, which has been lowered by nearly eight feet, back in place on Tuesday but the project was hit by delays.
It has been replaced after complaints from residents who said Tower House dominated the skyline.
It forms part of the £4.5 million eco-homes development by Fairmist Homes to build four homes as part of the 40-home environmentally friendly development.
Officials have claimed the work on the timber framed homes, which generate heat and power using solar panels and back boilers, should be complete by next summer.
Kieran Garvin, from PNT contractors, who oversaw yesterday’s modification, said: “We had originally intended for it to go back on on Tuesday but we experienced a few delays along the way, which couldn’t be helped.
“It took us about an hour to re-attach the lowered roof and we managed to get there in the end.”
Fairmist Homes chairman, Peter Murphy, said Tower House had been a problem which needed to be resolved.
He added: “Houses have to be built in accordance with planning requirements and reducing the height of Tower House is the only remaining issue that we have inherited.”
The eco-village has been built gradually over the past 10 years.
