Hunt for Shropshire winners as £160,000 unclaimed
Thursday 17th November 2011, 10:58AM GMT.
Almost £160,000 has gone unclaimed in Premium Bond prizes in Shropshire – including one win of £50 dating back to 1972, it was revealed today.
Figures released by National Savings and Investments show more than £40 million worth of prizes remain unclaimed nationally, including £100,000 won by a London woman. The total amount of unclaimed cash from the county is £159,225.
One woman in Shropshire has a £10 premium bond and won £1,000 but has still not come forward since the win in 1985. Nationally, another lucky lady has won £50,000 while four £25,000 prizes are also up for grabs.
NS&I has now launched a nationwide hunt for the winners of unclaimed Premium Bond prizes, which in Shropshire range from £1,000 to £25 and span nearly 40 years. There are some 3,000 winners in the county who are yet to claim their prize.
As worries over the economy and high living costs continue, NS&I said 740,000 sums across the country had never been claimed.
