Market Hall bucking trend for stall success
Wednesday 16th November 2011, 5:00PM GMT.
More than 20 traders are on a waiting list for a stall at Shrewsbury Market Hall, it has been revealed today.
Officials say the number has doubled in the past month, with 21 people currently waiting.
Shrewsbury town councillor for Bagley, David Farmer, welcomed the market’s success.
Mr Farmer, who is also the former president of the National Association of British Market Authorities said the healthy occupancy rate at Shrewsbury market was bucking a national trend.
He said: “I recently went to a national meeting and the consensus among officials was that markets up and down the country are struggling.
“I was happy to report that Shrewsbury Market Hall seems to be bucking this trend.
“It is very buoyant at the moment.”
