Facelift at Shrewsbury Music Hall runs year late
Saturday 12th November 2011, 9:07AM GMT.
Multi-million pound works to transform Shrewsbury’s Music Hall into a museum, art gallery and heritage centre are a year behind schedule.
Shropshire Council has blamed the delay on the ‘complex’ nature of the project but stresses it will not cost any more than its £10.4 million budget.
The centre was due to open next year.
But a report to a meeting of Shropshire Council’s cabinet says: “The delays have occurred due to the complexity of the property, which has resulted in a number of variations to the contract of works.”
The Music Hall closed in January 2009 when it was replaced by Theatre Severn.

I have been around 3 times on open days, the work being carried out is impressive, Therefore I can understand the delay, Such an important building needs time to get it right.

Is the council saying it didn’t realise it was a “complex” project before starting?!
It must be one of the worst local authorities around for putting its foot in its mouth.

Waste of money. What a great venue the Music Hall was for bands and comedy (messrs Shuttleworth, Ukele Orchestra, Stiff Little Fingers etc). We had some great line ups playing in Shrewsbury. Theatre Severn is not going to attract the same sort of events. And if it did it would be too expensive (mainly because its aimed squarely at south of the river residents). I say again, waste of money.
