Graves of war heroes uncovered for Ludlow service
Thursday 3rd November 2011, 10:55AM GMT.
A churchyard where five Shropshire First World War heroes rest has undergone a facelift ahead of a remembrance service on November 12.
Volunteers armed themselves with rakes, spades and brushes to clean up St Leonard’s churchyard in Ludlow.
The team included members from the Friends of Ludlow’s St Leonard’s Churchyard and helpers from Caring for God’s Acre.
Ludlow mayor John Aitken said: “We had 16 volunteers on Tuesday help out with tidying up the graves. It’s a three-acre site with about 1,400 gravestones. It is hard work to keep it tidy. The five WW1 grave stones have been uncovered and are now fully visible.”
