More than 70 beds at RSH in shake-up

More than 70 beds will be axed at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital under changes announced by health chiefs.

They say the cuts are needed to fall in line with similar hospitals in the UK.

Officials at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, which runs the RSH, claim the move will ensure consistency and sustainability, with patients being cared for in the ‘right place at the right time’.

Under the plans patients will also be given an estimated date of discharge when they first arrive at the hospital.

Staff will face changes as well under the plans, with a number being encouraged to apply for new vacancies.

No redundancies are planned as a result of the Transforming Care scheme.

An update on the plans shows there will be a total loss of 74 beds.

The bottom line here is no matter what “flannel” the NHS Trust Official tell us, is that the loss of 74 beds mean that 74 people waiting for a bed in the hospital will now have to wait longer for their treatment.

    “consistency and sustainability”

    consistently and sustainably poor, perhaps.

In July 2011 there was only one hospital trust in England with longer waiting times (time between being referred by GP and being seen at hospital) than the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust.

So not only do we have to wait a long time, we’re going to now have less beds too. Progress.

Hang on if 70 beds are being axed hows that care err lets do the maths, minus 70 beds = minus 70 people needing treatment or more if the same bed is used more that once! How do people know where and when the next bed will be needed? Fall in line my foot its to save money as mentioned. Transforming care! not likely more like transforming the accounts book! It may cost dearly in the long run.
