Wind turbine plan for north Shropshire farm
Monday 31st October 2011, 11:29AM GMT.
A huge 118ft wind turbine could be built in the north Shropshire countryside to power a farm. Bosses at Winston Farm in Tetchill, near Ellesmere, are behind the 50kw micro generation turbine.
The turbine would be about 118ft high with 31ft blades and would stand on a plateau at the 300-acre farm.
It comes as applicants Wigley & Sons submitted a similar planning application for a wind turbine at the nearby Dandyford Farm in Hordley.
Both want to use the power generated by the turbine to slash their energy bills.
A report in support of the new plans says: “The proposed use of the wind turbine is for the generation of electricity from a renewable source, the wind.
“The applicant intends to reduce reliance on imported electricity through the on-site generation of wind energy, which will in turn reduce costs to the farming operation and support the diversification activities of the business.”
The report adds: “The applicant also supports efforts to address and seek solutions to climate change and global warming, and is therefore making a personal effort to contribute to national requirements for clean, disaggregated renewable energy generation.”
Parish councillors said they were unaware of the plans for Dandyford Farm but anticipated objections from some residents.
Members of the public have until November 17 to comment on the plans for Winston Farm as part of the consultation process.

Great news for the economy and the planet
i would totally support this. the area really needs more electricity there has been black outs in the past

this is exactly what our economy needs more power, more green, more engineering – nice

How very selfish of these farms. Blight the landscape just so they save a few pennies on their costs. Landscape vandals.

Great news for the Planet indeed, I think Iron Flag needs to do some research into this topic before making a very lazy comment,we need to support traditional family farms in this country. This is certainly a step in the right direction and if managed correctly can be an efficient source of electricity without creating CO2. Compare a wind farm to a power station belching plooms of smoke into the atmosphere and I know which one I would prefer.

Huge – at 118 feet – give me a break – bring them on, the more the better – if only to annoy the pathetic nimby brigade

Great news! We need lots of wind turbines to reduce our fossil fuel dependency. This is just one small step in the right direction so get it up and running! There is so much natural energy which is going to waste all around us – it just needs harnessing. Get it going Windy-miller!

Imagine trying to gain planning permission for a 15 storey building in the heart of the countryside, that’s how tall the turbine would be including blades.
The only thing worse than NIMBYs are the “Great Idea As Long It’s Not Near Me” brigade.
