Shropshire unions back strike call over pensions

Sunday 30th October 2011, 10:00AM GMT.

Representatives of some of Shrewsbury’s key public sector trade unions have backed a call for a day of co-ordinated strike action next month over reforms of their members’ pensions.

The Shropshire Fire Service Fire Brigades Union (FBU) branch, Shropshire Unison, and Shrewsbury University & College Union (UCU) branch are among those who are supporting the proposed walk-out on November 30.

Officials from the unions, which also include the Shrewsbury Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency and the Public & Commercial Services Union branch, met recently to provide updates on the progress of balloting for strike action at each of their branches.

They also agreed to organise a joint march in support of the action on November 30, starting from the car parks on Abbey Foregate opposite Shrewsbury Abbey and going to the Old Market Square for a lunchtime rally with local and regional speakers.
