Fifty people banned from Shrewsbury shops

More than 50 people have been banned from shops in Shrewsbury in the last 12 months for offences involving theft, West Mercia Police said today.

The exclusions, which initially last for 12 months, are handed out for retail theft with the majority being for theft of alcohol.

Constable Dave Walton said the Retail Exclusion scheme had been brought in following the success of a Pubwatch banning policy.

He said 28 bans had been served on individuals since July and warned anyone thinking of stealing from town shops should think twice because of the ‘banned from one, banned from all’ scheme.
