Poison fears over Shropshire cat deaths
Thursday 27th October 2011, 8:00PM BST.
The RSPCA today said it was ‘extremely worried’ after receiving calls about suspicious cat deaths in Telford and Shrewsbury.
Officials say three cats have died in the Grinshill Drive area of Shrewsbury with further deaths being reported in Trench, Telford. The cats died from kidney failure – raising fears of antifreeze poisoning.
It comes after several cat deaths in Trench last year which were believed to have been due to antifreeze.
Judith Haw, spokeswoman for the RSPCA, today urged anyone with information to contact the charity’s national cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234 999
She said: “There have been three deaths in Shrewsbury and at least four cats have been affected or died in Telford.”

One cause of kidney failure in cats is dehydrated food. If not enough water is left with the dry food, then over time the kidneys will fail. Ask any vet and they will confirm it. We lost one pet because of that and now only use food in sachets.

Maybe it’s aliens doing animal mutilation…

At least 4 cats in our road in Bayston Hill have also died from poisoning. My partner works for VLA and she found a Cat still alive with the symptoms, took into the Vets where she works but it died of Poisoning. Is it likely to be deliberate or are cats finding a water supply that is contaminated by accident. Either way it seems to happen in isolated pockets and it very distressing for the owners.

i myself live in Grinshill drive of Shrewsbury, we had police around here and residents were urging people to keep an eye on there cats, as a cat owner myself it is very worrying as of the cold weather starting to set in our cat doesn’t venture very far, but there is always a chance he could, so i am keeping him in as he is litter trained, but other cats are out 24/7 round here, it is sad to know it is happening as cats are always out around here they r familiar faces and over time you get to know what they r like.

This is awful, but I wonder why the RSPCA choose to be so concerned about this situation, when they are not at all interested in the fact that in our area, two dogs have been killing cats in the most horrific way for over two years. The RSPCA know who the owners of these dogs are and still do nothing. I think that all cruelty should be dealt with as its all equally distressing for the owners of these beautiful animals. Some people are very sick.
