After weeks of auditions, an X Factor-style boot camp, and a nerve jangling live performance the winner of Telford’s Talent 2011 has been crowned.

Singer Jade Cottrell scooped the accolade and a £500 top prize at Oakengates Theatre last night. Jade, whose stage name is Angel, wowed the crowd and judges with her rendition of Jar of Hearts by American singer-songwriter Christina Perri.

Organisers said the competition was in its third year and 75 acts from across Telford originally registered.

After auditions and boot camp the number was whittled down to 12, and performers gave their all in front of cheering fans.

The judging panel was made up of 2009 Telford’s Talent winner, 15-year-old Daniel Crossley, radio DJ Paul Shuttleworth, choreographer Heidi Fletcher and musical theatre fan Sam Fothergill.

Many acts were singers with a wide age range and differing music styles.

The King – Tony Berrill, Alice Leaver, Lucy Burden, Louis Coupe, Natalie Lewis, Claire Shaw, Natalie Watton, Fraser Callaghan, Leigh Sullivan, and Loose Lips made up of Kieran Hayes and Lewis Bates, all impressed the judges and won votes.

And eight-year-old gymnast Tobie Watson also entertained the crowd.

Lucy Stevens, 25, and Stuart Summers, 20,won a competition to host the show.

Arnold England, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for leisure and well-being, said: “Telford’s Talent is now in its third year, and each year we are surprised by the high standard.”

Fireworks exploded when Angel got the winning vote. She was given the cheque on stage by the hosts and Mayor and Mayoress of Telford Malcolm and Christine Smith.

I thought she sang very well, and was a worthy winner. I hope she goes on to better things, and leaves Mr. Grumpy, (post 1), with copious amounts of egg over his face.
    Well done Angel.

She was my singing student and has put in a lot of work at only 13 years old she is fantastic and a star in the making.
She will go on to do really well, definitely a worthy winner
    Well done Angel!

A good night on Tuesday…12 very good acts…just a shame that the winner was decided by who had the most family and friends in the audience. Need a better voting system!

I have to agree. Excellent night and fantastic local talent all around but it seems unfair that the winner is the person who can get the most fans into the theatre.
It was obvious who was going to win. Voting system is seriously flawed and needs rethinking for next year.

Angel deserved to win, she had some serious competition admittedly but she gave a faultless performance, and oozed confidence. I know she has put a tremendous amount of effort in to get to the standard she is at. and lets remember it takes allot of courage for a 13yr old girl to stand up in front of that many people to be judged. amazing.
