Shropshire Poppy Appeal set for flying start

Shropshire’s Poppy Appeal is set for a flying start when an RAF helicopter delivers the match ball for Shrewsbury Town’s home clash with AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The match ball and a giant poppy will be flown in to the Greenhous Meadow by a Griffin helicopter from RAF Shawbury ahead of the 3pm kick-off.

Shrews captain Ian Sharps has penned a message of support for the match programme and appeal organisers said despite the tough economic times they are hoping to raise more than the £377,000 they achieved last year.
