Wednesday 26th October 2011, 4:13PM BST.
Workers in Shropshire will be involved in a £1 billion Army project. Shrewsbury-based Caterpillar Remanufacturing Services will be working with Lockheed Martin on the Warrior tanks upgrade.
Richard Millard, marketing development manager at the firm, in Lancaster Road, said: “The impact of the Warrior upgrade on Caterpillar supplied equipment and services is yet to be fully assessed.
“Caterpillar continues to support the in-service fleet of Warrior vehicles from its Shrewsbury facility and looks forward to working with the Ministry of Defence and Lockheed Martin UK to improve capability and supportability for the future.”
The upgrade is to extend the service life of the vehicles through to 2040 and beyond. It is thought by awarding the contract to Lockheed Martin UK it will secure 600 jobs for the company and its suppliers.
