Thousands expected at Welshampton fire festival

Thousands of people were expected to watch a 40ft high birthday cake made out of wood being burned to the ground today at an annual bonfire extravaganza in Shropshire.
The 10th Welshampton Festival of Fire was due to be held in a field in the centre of the village with organisers hoping to attract 2,000 visitors.
Gates open at 5.30pm with the show starting at 7pm and lasting about an hour. The bonfire will be followed by a celebration at the village hall.
