Severn Trent raises £120,000 from land sale

Severn Trent has raised more than £120,000 after auctioning off redundant land including former reservoirs and land where an ex-pumping station used to stand.
Nine lots went up for sale on Friday in Shrewsbury at auctioneers Halls. The top-selling piece of land was a half acre site behind Station Road in Wem which has planning permission for up to five homes. It went for £100,000.
Other assets owned by the water company across Shropshire, Powys and Worcestershire also went under the hammer.
Among the most popular items in the auction were the former reservoir sites including 0.10 acres at Berriewood, Condover, near Shrewsbury, which sold for £4,200 and 0.38 acres in Snedshill, Telford, which went for a similar price of £4,100.
Other former reservoir sites sold included 0.05 acres of land at Cleobury North, near Bridgnorth, which went for £3,200, while £800 was paid for 0.06 acres at Bucknell, near Craven Arms.
The highest seller of the reservoir lots was a 0.08 acre site at Byrnderwen, near Llanfyllin, which went for £8,200, while £700 was paid for 0.10 acres at Cwmllinau, Cemmaes Road, near Machynlleth, and £600 for 0.02 acres at Mayhill, Knighton on Teme, near Tenbury Wells.
A former pumping station site covering 34 sq m at Abermule, near Montgomery, sold for £1,000.
The total amount raised by all of the Severn Trent sales was £122,800.
