Meeting today over Shrewsbury Toy Run
Tuesday 18th October 2011, 2:30PM BST.
The annual Shrewsbury Toy Run could move a step closer to going ahead today as organisers meet with council transport chiefs to discuss its future.
MCC Rainbringers, which organises the event, was meeting with Shropshire Council’s highways department this afternoon to work out whether the toy run will be able to take place this December.
Organisers scrapped the event, which sees hundreds of bikers delivering toys to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Severndale School and children’s residential care home Bradbury House, over concerns about whether the police were needed to marshal it.
But after talks with Chief Inspector Martin Whitelegg it was established the event could go ahead with the MCC Rainbringers doing their own marshalling.
They are now due to speak with highways officials to see if the marshals will have the authority to temporarily stop traffic as hundreds of bikers make their way around Shrewsbury to drop off hundreds of Christmas gifts.
