Metal detecting at Knockin Heath near Oswestry in aid of Hope House.

Metal detector enthusiasts scoured fields in Shropshire to raise funds for Hope House Children’s Hospice.

Finds included a sixpence from the reign of Elizabeth I, a George V half crown and a thimble.

The rally was organised by the Midlands-based Timeline Detection Club in stubble fields on the Knockin Heath to Kinnerley Road close to the remains of a motte and bailey castle and an Iron Age fortress.

Organiser Barry Peplow, 67, of Clive Road, Shrewsbury said the 75 acres of land had not been gone over by metal detectors before.

Almost 100 people turned up for Saturday’s event, enjoying perfect weather to search the land.
