Home soil ceremony is so sweet for Val

Who needs Buckingham Palace when you have Wem Town Hall? For Shropshire woman Valerie Good, the honour of receiving an MBE in The Queen’s Honours List should have meant a trip to the palace in London to collect the award.
But Mrs Good, a key figure in Shropshire’s horticultural scene, acc-epted the honour in front of friends, civic leaders and residents at Wem Town Hall.
Officials said she elected to receive the MBE on home soil from the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Algernon Heber-Percy.
About 100 people including councillors, fellow horticulturalists and friends watched on as the ceremony took place yesterday afternoon.
