A staff nurse stole drugs from the Shropshire hospital where he worked, a hearing has been told.
James McDonald is alleged to have taken quantities of high-strength painkiller Tramadol from drug cupboards at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford on two occasions.
He is said to have pocketed an unknown amount of medication while working on the medical assessment unit on March 13 and 16, 2009.
McDonald is facing a misconduct hearing before the Nursing and Midwifery Council in central London.
The full charges are that he allegedly took an unknown quantity of Tramadol from the drugs cupboard on the medical assessment unit at the hospital on two occasions without the permission of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
It is claimed that his actions were dishonest and that his fitness to practise has been impaired by reason of misconduct.
Tramadol is used for treating moderate to severe pain. The two-day hearing is behind closed doors.
