Oswestry backs private firm to manage Christmas lights
Thursday 13th October 2011, 2:36PM BST.
Councillors have backed plans to hire a private firm to run Oswestry’s town centre Christmas decorations.
Oswestry Town Council is currently solely responsible for the attractions after it took over management of the lights from Shropshire Council in April, but the equipment is dated and there is a problem over where to store it.
Councillors were told at a meeting last night talks had been held with a leading Christmas lighting company to discuss the future.
The meeting was told the firm can provide a full package of Christmas decorative lighting which includes testing of the various anchors, checking of existing equipment, erection and dismantling, and maintenance during the lighting period together with storage.
