Cash problems leave Newtown without CCTV
Thursday 13th October 2011, 3:06PM BST.
One of Powys’ biggest towns has been left without an operating CCTV system for months because of funding problems and cutbacks, it has emerged.
Newtown’s closed circuit television system, which is believed to have been switched off earlier this year, will remain as it is until someone can take over the managing and funding of it, at an estimated tens of thousands of pounds.
The system was installed more than 10 years ago after a spate of problems, with the help of a Home Office grant.
But at the moment no-one is responsible for funding or maintaining it.
