Incinerator inquiry told of health research claims
Wednesday 12th October 2011, 8:13AM BST.
Information used to support claims that a new £60 million incinerator in Shrewsbury would not harm the health of nearby residents lacks sufficient research, an inquiry has been told.
Michael Ryan, an anti-incinerator campaigner from Shrewsbury, said he was highly concerned, on health grounds, by waste firm Veolia’s plans to build a facility at Battlefield Enterprise Park.
Part of Veolia’s case in favour of the incinerator states that Government advice on such facilities says there is ‘no credible evidence of adverse health outcomes for those living near well-managed incinerators’.
But Mr Ryan claimed that the Health Protection Agency had not done enough research to support this contention.

Is this still going on?
Only when those muppets from Veolia and Shropshire Councils waste services can get their act together and collect EVERYTHING that is recyclable, should they be asking for an incinerator to burn the rest.
Bags of milk.
Tetra packs
Yogurt pots
Pastic wrapping
Food waste
Margerine tubs
Batteries
Textiles
But that’s the issue, isnt it. Shropshire Council and its private contractor, will make vast sums of money by selling the electricity to the grid. We loose all incentive for Veolia to introduce more recycling. Thats why I have no confidence in this inquiry, behind closed doors Councillors and the Executive will have been looking at how this cash can be used the plug the funding gap.
And since its in Shrewsbury, and no real problem to Kieth Barrow (and his wife’s) re-election) he shall not give a flying duck. Put it in Oswestry, and see Barrow quickly reject the plan with no need for enquiry.
The fact is residents DEMAND better recycling, not incineration (we could do that ourselves if we wanted to).

There’s a great documentary coming out which highlights the exact risks incinerators cause to both us and our environment – it’s high time people start listening!
i found the trailer here – it’s got english subtitles: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pufuqiaa7pg

“But Mr Ryan claimed that the Health Protection Agency had not done enough research to support this contention.”
when the truth is that the Health Protection Agency hasn’t carried out any research into the health effects of incinerators.
Those who doubt the HPA’s failure to do their job can read the HPA’s letter to Michael Ryan, dated 8 June 2009 at:

Shropshire County PCT and the Environment Agency must know that the HPA haven’t checked any relevant data around any incinerator and yet
an IPPC permit has been issued for Veolia’s proposed incinerator at Harlescott.
