The damaged roof at the Burton Borough School in Newport, as seen on Monday

A school which was forced to close after thieves damaged the roof while attempting to steal metal reopened today.

Burton Borough School, in Newport, reopened this morning but headteacher David Hill says the damaged roof means the kitchen is unable to serve hot meals until at least Thursday.

The school’s open day will still go ahead tonight although prospective parents are asked not to park on the grounds.
