Telford ice rink in £4 million revamp plan
Monday 10th October 2011, 5:38PM BST.
Telford Ice Rink is to remain in council ownership and could receive a £4 million revamp.
Telford & Wrekin Council, which owns the site, put the ice rink’s lease out to tender last year.
However the council has now decided to hold on to the rink.
Last year customer numbers fell by more than 38,000 between April 2009 and April 2010.
But later this month, councillors will be asked to formally retain the ice rink as a council asset and develop it as a key part of the £250 million Southwater development.
Among the recommendations to the council’s cabinet on October 20 will be the redesign and refurbishment of the interior of the building and an extension to include a new children’s soft play area.

Oh I am soooo glad…
Who needs libraries and care homes, social workers and schools? We’ve got an ice rink!
Bravo to the council for their brilliant “finger on the pulse” on this one!

And council tax will go up to pay for it!!

It’s great that a fantastic facility such as the ice rink is being given the attention that it needs.
A leisure facility used by hundreds of thousands of people throughout the year every year.
Might help attract back some of the large scale events that the rink was always renowned for holding. Long overdue works that can only benefit the community and the significant number of users.
