Lottery cash ideas questionnaires deadline extended

The deadline for members of the public to complete questionnaires on how to spend £1 million of lottery funding has been extended because so few householders have taken part.

Gobowen, St Martins and Weston Rhyn have been awarded the cash boost through the National Lottery’s Big Local programme.

Questionnaires have been delivered to homes in the three villages but organisers today said the response received to date had been lower than expected.

They have extended the deadline for the questionnaires to be returned until October 17 because they say more replies are needed to help guide the project, which will bring £1 million to the area over the next 10 years.

Residents are encouraged to return completed forms to Weston Rhyn Post Office, Stans Superstore or the Co Op in Gobowen to save postage. Or people can enter their views online at www.shropshire-rcc.org.uk

Brian Ashton, a member of the development team, said: “We really want this project to follow the needs of local people and have opportunities for everyone to be involved.

“The deadline for completion has been extended to October 17. This is a tremendous opportunity for the area and we hope that villagers will actively participate in determining how £1 million will be used to help develop the areas.”

The money will be allocated by a team of local people to schemes suggested by local people and is independent of Shropshire Council or Government funding.
