Inquiry after body found in Welshpool house
Monday 10th October 2011, 11:10AM BST.
A 46-year-old man is believed to have died after falling down the stairs at a house in Welshpool early today. Police were called to Clos Bryn Y Ddol, in Gungrog Hill, at 2.30am.
They had received a report of the man’s sudden death.
An investigation has now been launched by Dyfed Powys Police into the circumstances of his death.
A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said the man had fallen down the stairs and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sharon Davies, a resident, said she only the man as ‘Gainty’. She said: “I knew him quite well. He was an electrician and helped re-wire my sister’s house when she moved to Oswestry.”
A neighbour today re-ported seeing police and an ambulance arrive at the property.
The neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “It was quite a shock to see so much activity. I don’t think there is a man living permanently at the address but I have seen a woman at the property on a regular basis.”
Another neighbour, Geoffrey O’Sullivan, described how he and his wife were woken up by someone knocking loudly on a door.
He said: “My wife heard it too, it woke us both up. But we didn’t see anything.”
Catherine Evans-Will-iams, a Dyfed Powys Police spokesman, said: “Police were called to an address in Clos Bryn Y Ddol, Welshpool in the early hours of this morning following reports of the sudden death of a 46- year-old man. The Powys coroner has been informed.”
