Concerns on care of elderly at RSH

The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was today named on a list of hospitals which are failing to feed and look after elderly patients properly.

The Care Quality Commission said it had ‘minor concerns’ about nutritional standards at the hospital and the dignity of the care it provided. It was one of 100 hospitals investigated with 49 found to have minor, moderate or major concerns about nutritional standards for elderly people.

The CQC’s findings, which come from unannounced inspections, also suggest four in 10 elderly patients are not being offer dignified care.

CQC officials named the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust among those causing concern and highlighted the Royal Shrewsbury. No concerns were raised about the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

Problems like this are not acceptable, much of it down to idleness and not doing the job they are employed to do properly. As has been reported before qualified but standard of personal care unacceptable.
