Cannabis plants worth £17,000 seized near Shrewsbury
Friday 7th October 2011, 7:52PM BST.
Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to £17,000 have been seized by police from a house in a village near Shrewsbury.
A man and woman in their 50s were arrested after police raided the property in Percy Thrower Avenue, in Bomere Heath, last night and recovered 17 plants.
The 55-year-old man has since been charged with producing cannabis, which is a Class B controlled drug, at the house and will appear before Shrewsbury Magistrates Court on October 20.
The 52-year-old woman was given a caution for permitting the production of a controlled drug.
Officers carried out the raid under the Misuse of Drugs Act, with the search being the latest in a series of similar initiatives.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Tackling illegal drug use remains a priority for the police. Any information from the public which helps us is always welcome and can be given by calling 0300 333 3000.”
The seizure follows the arrest of a man, 62, in Shrewsbury earlier this week on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.
