Handbag stolen as Telford accident victim fights for life
Thursday 6th October 2011, 11:30AM BST.
Thieves stole a 70-year-old woman’s handbag as paramedics fought to save her life on the side of a road in Telford after she was hit by a vehicle.
The woman and an 84-year-old man were attempting to cross the three lane carriageway at Lawn Central, in Telford town centre, when they were hit by a Nissan car on Sunday at 3.10pm
Suffering serious injuries to her head and legs, the woman was receiving treatment by paramedics when thieves stole her handbag, containing £100 cash, cards and other personal items.
Constable Rob Seager, who is investigating the incident, today said: “This act falls nothing short of despicable. I cannot see how much lower someone can go given the circumstances.
“The woman suffered serious head and leg injuries and had to be treated at the roadside. Her condition was life threatening so it was imperative that she received urgent medical care.
“Unfortunately an opportunist thief saw fit to steal the woman’s bag as she was receiving the care she needed to save her life.
“The bag was later found by the Telford Plaza car park but the purse from within the bag was missing. The stolen purse – which is described as a black leather purse with a gold clasp – contained about £100 and various personal documents and bank cards. We are trying to identify the offender and would appeal to anyone with information about the theft to come forward,” Constable Seager added.
Both casualties remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

what is wrong with these sick individuals they all talk of respect yet they know nothing about it and where were the police they should have been there first even more so since they are just around the corner from where this happened

Why is that someone has to take a cheap shot at the Police, you weren’t there so what do you know? In cases like this it is always an ambulance that would be the first response, you know the things that save peoples lives that was the number one priority for this man and lady that were so badly injured. The Police were there within minutes, however even the Police’s priority would have been to preserve life and control the scene not to babysit a handbag, All emergency services did an excellent job, it was some low life that stole the handbag, get a life and blame the correct person.

Drugies after any cash they can get.

Simply Despicable!
As I walk around Telford on a daily basis it is hard to ignore what little respect people in this town have for their environment or other people.
I am hardly surprised by anything that happens in Telford anymore.

Perhaps you should change your route, and walk around the many nice bits of Telford?

Please Peter Tell us where!!!!

Too many Johnny Foreigners for you John , i think you’re far better off over in tractor land..

@ John Jones
For a start you might like to try to the southern end of the Town Park (yards from my front door), Rough Park and Lightmoor, Castle Pools at Little Dawley, Ercall Woods, Lloyds Coppice, Lea Dingle – I could do on but that’s several thousand acres of public open space, mainly woodland, within the boundaries of Telford.
Meanwhile Shrewsbury’s got the Quarry – a big lawn with a garden.
Back to the original subject of this thread – I hope the scum responsible suffer the consequences of their actions….wherever they come from.

John,
You’re clearly so insular that you rarely leave your own house.
I live in a pleasant house in Telford, with nice, hard-working neighbours. My children have been and continue to be, well-educated in state schools within T&W. We’ve had good care here from the NHS when we’ve needed it. We have nearby areas of pleasant green countryside which we can enjoy, and a good network of traffic free cycle paths whih I can enjoy with my children.
In the 25 years I’ve lived here, in 3 different areas of Telford, I’ve not been a victim of crime, nor anti-social behaviour. True, I rarely visit Telford Town Centre – which I assume is what you and many others spreaking from a position of personal ignorance regard as Telford – but there are many other parts of Telford which are good places to live in.
Why don’t you visit and find out for yourself? – It might help broaden your extremely narrowed mind!

Rob, Thank you for the information.( Awl right jockey lad, how bist thee,)I learnt this many years ago from a Dawley man who I used to work with in the 50s. twisting my mellon, You are right about Johnny Foreigners, and tractor land, just the other side of the river over from the large lawn as Rob puts it, you can see a herd of black cows grazing, do you see that in Telford? or does it take a car journey? Peter, Yes I do get out, being retired I walk a few miles each day With my 2 dogs, the one is still being pushed by me in a wheelchair, the vet told us 13 months ago that she had perhaps 3 months left, with her tablets costing us £70 per 4 weeks she is still with us ( no insurance)Owing to this we have not had our usual 4 x 2 weeks holidays abroad this year, only managed two x 1 week. My offer to join us for the trip to Israel in March still stands. It’s a hard life being retired. When this person is caught they should be put in a circle of the victims friends for say 2mins. That should be long enough.

Nothing a captive bolt administered behind the back of the job centre wouldn’t solve here. No decency, no empathy, no standards, no morals…nothing worth passing on really. Barely worth being alive I would have thought. Meanwhile heart felt sympathy to this poor woman.

With any luck the saying ‘what goes around comes around’ will apply in this case. I cannot begin to understand what kind of low life would do such a thing. I hope they are caught and dealt with very harshly.

Hopefully they will have been caught on CCTV and these low life’s will get what they deserve

Sickening, but sadly not in the slightest bit surprising. I live and work in Telford, and go to the Town Centre most weekday lunchtimes. 90% chav doley scutters, the burgeoning peasant underclass.

Well i am sure it goes down to 89% with your mere presence …. i hate threads like this, i live in telford and guess what i have never committed a crime… don’t tar all of us with the same brush… bad things happen in other parts of shropshire!!!!

whats with the digs at telford. there is nothing wrong with it here…i agree it is not just telford thats always under fire… comment away but us true telford born and bread no what is is like here… these comments about how bad telford is probly came from people who live in newport or shrowsbury, (shrewsbury if you know how to speak.)

Like I said Richie, I live in Telford too. Are you saying I’m wrong? Open your eyes next time you’re in town.

Town *REALLY* isnt that bad.
I’ve never heard a thing like this happen in Telford.
Yes, there are a minority that are quite chavvy and thuggy but compared to everyone else in the centre, it’s quite a small minority…
Report abuse
I’ve been to shopping centres in other places, including Shrewsbury – and guess what – they’re full of scutters and chavs.
So it’s not a Telford problem, or a Shrewsbury problem – it’s a shopping centre problem…
Neither Telford nor Shrewsbury have especially high crime rates – in fact, statistically Shrewsbury’s is slightly higher – though that may well vary from year to year.
The Shropshire Star never seems to waste an opportunity to publish negative stories about Telford – but if you look carefully you’ll see equally heinous crimes taking place in Shrewsbury too.
This was a dreadful thing to have happened – but it is not indicative of the quality of the place it happened in, nor of the quality of the people who live there.

If these scumbuckets are Salopians, shoot them. If not horsewhip them and send them back to wherever they came from.

David. You are right, but until we have a government that protects the people and does away with the H R Act, nothing will happen, It will just fade away until the next time.

why on earth has this poor women’s story been used to start a debate on the Telford area. You may be shocked to know that every town/city in the country has bad areas, with bad people in it. The majority of people are hard working and live by the law. I really hope that either the police or the local community find this person, what they have done is disgraceful. My thoughts are with the lady and her family.
