Tim ticks off Wrekin challenge number 27

A charity fundraiser from Shropshire continued his year-long challenge climbing The Wrekin by carrying a set of skis to the top of the hill.

Landscaper Tim Stevens, of Church Lane, Little Wenlock, completed his 27th ascent to the summit and is now on a countdown to finishing the 52-week challenge.

He charges local companies £25 to sponsor him and in return he carries up whatever they give him.

So far the 44-year-old has climbed more than 36,000ft – 7,000ft higher than Everest – raising more than £1,500 for charity. Mr Stevens said: “This week I was sponsored by skietoile, a company that organises skiing holidays in France.

“I was asked to carry up an antique pair of skis. The weather is starting to change now. I’m sure it’s going to get a lot worse making the challenge more difficult in the coming months.”

The former boxing coach is collecting the cash for Barnardo’s in memory of his late mother, who was raised by one of the organisation’s homes until she was five.

He has been joined on the climbs by his wife Michelle, 43, and 11-year-old daughter Rebecca.

“My wife and children have supported me every week and climbed The Wrekin to give me support, it has been a real family effort,” added Mr Stevens.

“We look forward to the next six months being as successful as the last.

“Next week I am sponsored by a metal recycling company.”
