A Shropshire soldier who has saved countless lives in Afghanistan and earned a reputation as the Army’s best explosives sniffer dog handler has been awarded an MBE.

Sergeant Kaye Wilson, 35, from Radbrook, Shrewsbury, was honoured for her ‘unwavering bravery’ searching for hidden improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Helmand.

She and her dog Obama, a two-and-a-half-year-old Belgian Shepherd Malinois, were deployed to the most dangerous areas as part of a high-risk IED search team.

Her citation credits her as being the first to volunteer for tasks, gaining the respect of other search teams.
