Incinerator ‘would damage Battle of Shrewsbury site’

The historic site of the Battle of Shrewsbury would suffer ‘substantial harm’ as a result of the creation of a giant incinerator 200 metres away from it, a planning inquiry has been told.

Waste firm Veolia wants to build the facility at Battlefield Enterprise Park and has launched an appeal against Shropshire Council’s planning committee’s decision to unanimously reject it in 2010.

On the first day of the hearing at Shirehall yesterday, representatives of the Battlefield 1403 visitor centre, who oppose the proposed burner, said the creation of the incinerator would damage the look of the historic site.

Historic site? Where’s the profit in that? According to Mr Cameron we must “presume in favour of development”. If it makes a buck then build all over it I say.
