Event to celebrate Wilfred Owen’s life

A major event is being held in France to mark the renovation of the house where Shropshire-born war poet Wilfred Owen spent his last night before being killed in battle.
This Saturday, Association Wilfred Owen France will be holding a celebration after restoring the Maison Forestière in northern France.
English artist Simon Pattison, a Turner Prize nominee, was enlisted to recreate the poet’s home as a sculptural memorial to the poet and it has been designed to feel like an open book.
Wilfred Owen was born in Oswestry in 1893 and was killed on the battlefield in 1918.
Pam Job, from Essex, has been involved with the project as part of her poetry society which is based near Colchester,
She said: “The old house has been refurbished and there are poems written inside the home.
“It is a big detached house painted white, and out the back there has been a large spiral built with words etched into it. They are the last words Owen spoke to his mother.
She said that as part of her poetry society she is now looking to people in Oswestry to help forge poetry links with d’Ors.

Another ongoing missed opportunity by those supposedly promoting Shrewsbury Town Plc. Yes, I know he was an Oswestry boy, but they have to come here eventually to look for culture

Shropshire Council are contributing to the celebrations in their own inimitable way by trying to close his old school.
