CCTV move to curb Ludlow Buttercross vandalism
Monday 26th September 2011, 10:38AM BST.
CCTV cameras will be installed inside Ludlow’s historic Buttercross in a bid to stop drunken yobs vandalising the listed 18th century building, it was claimed today.
Veronica Calderbank, clerk at Ludlow Town Council, said she wanted to send a clear message that yobbish behaviour would not be tolerated, following her claims last week that children as young as 12 were vandalising and drinking in the 18th century market hall.
Ms Calderbank said: “I want these people to know the town clerk is fighting back against the crime in the Buttercross.
“CCTV cameras will be fitted there very soon and I am pricing them up right now.
“I want to catch the perpetrators of these crimes, which are classed as criminal damage, and they need to know we will prosecute anyone found to be breaking the law.”

It won’t make a difference if the police don’t come out and deal with the yobs.
