Policy change on fire alerts
Friday 23rd September 2011, 11:02AM BST.
Firefighters serving Tenbury, Leominster and parts of south Shropshire today revealed plans to stop attending automatic fire alarms, in a bid to cut costs and save time.
The move follows a review by Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, which found 95 per cent of AFAs turn out to be false alarms. Fire chiefs said they would always attend if there was any possbility someone was at risk.
Area commander George Sherry said: “It simply isn’t sensible for us to commit so many resources to automatic fire alarm calls.”
