Newtown teen punished over trying to provoke a riot

A 15-year-old must serve a 12-month youth rehabilitation order for encouraging friends to start a riot in Newtown.

The boy, who cannot be named, but who lives in the town, appeared at Welshpool Youth Court yesterday.

He had earlier admitted writing a message on his Facebook page during the August riots, encouraging friends to join him in starting a riot in the town.

He admitted a charge of sending by public communication, an offensive, obscene or threatening message.

The boy, wrote how he was planning on starting it at Gandhi’s Indian Restaurant, before moving on to the police station and Little Chef restaurant, was also given a curfew order between 7pm and 7am for 91 days and ordered to pay £85 costs.
