Farm scoops national award for education
Thursday 22nd September 2011, 10:50AM BST.
A farm near Oswestry which threw open its gates for visitors to experience a ‘day in the life’ has won a national award for its work in educating young people.
Treflach Farm won the access category at the annual Bayer/Farming and Countryside Education (Face) awards. The farm encourages pupils with special needs, disaffected students and disadvantaged students with visits and workshops.
It beat off fierce competition from farms across the UK.
The awards are organised each year by the Face, a charity that educates children about food and farming.
Ian Steele, who runs the 100-acre farm with his parents Bob and Betty and went to London to receive the award this week, said he was delighted.
“It is testament to the hard work of everyone involved,” he said.
