Colourful flags have been placed outside a church in Shifnal as part of the town’s annual festival.

Twenty-four flags, which were originally designed for an Olympiad in Shrewsbury earlier this summer, have been placed around St Andrews Church since last Thursday with another 10 expected to be put up this weekend.

The Reverend Chris Thorpe said: “We are really pleased to host the flags, they are so bright and colourful. People are stopping in the street to ask questions about them.

“They celebrate Shropshire life and depict different aspects of being here and living here. They also celebrate Shifnal people’s creativity.

“On a day like today where the sun is shining and the flags are rippling in the wind they look fantastic.”

Organisers of Shifnal Festival 2011, which started last week and runs until this weekend with dozens of events taking place across the town, hope to have more flags at future events.

“There are 39 flags in total,” said festival organiser Rachel Lambourne.
