Tractor fire closes main road
Tuesday 20th September 2011, 11:29AM BST.
A section of a main Shropshire road was closed for about 25 minutes after a tractor burst into flames.
The tractor was on fire on the A5 at Great Ness, near Shrewsbury, at about 1.53pm on Saturday.
Nobody was hurt in the incident but the road was shut for a short period while the fire service put out the fire and the vehicle was moved from the road.
A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “It was a tractor fire on the A5 at Great Ness. The tractor was severely damaged by fire. Police were called to close the road because it was blocking the road.”
Engines from Baschurch and Shrewsbury attended the scene and crews extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets. A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police said officers arrived at the scene of the fire at about 2.25pm and closed the road. It was reopened by 2.53pm.
Shropshire Star reader Martin Woolfe took this image of the fire at about 2.10pm.
He said: “This tractor was ablaze on the main road through Nescliffe at the junction to Adcote School. There were no injuries.”
